The culmination of a 4 week intensive training workshop in Beijing Opera performance techniques led by renowned artist Xu Jiali, The Horseman's Magic premiered in the Spring of 2017, combining both first and second year MFA students. As such, the main five roles were double cast and performed alternate nights; I played the role of Zhouma in Cast A.
Our work with Xu Jiali primarily focused on eye techniques, learning basic movement sequences for traditional Bejing Opera character types, and dancing with water sleeves! Photos taken by Jamie Kraus.
